FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - The New England Patriots announced that they have released TE Scott Chandler and WR Brandon LaFell. 

Chandler, 30, was signed by the Patriots as a free agent on March 16, 2015. The 6-foot-7, 260-pounder, played in 15 games with four starts in the regular season and finished with 23 receptions for 259 yards and four touchdowns last season. He played in both postseason games, but did not register any receptions. 

Chandler is veteran of eight NFL seasons with the San Diego Chargers (2007-08), New York Giants (2009), Dallas Cowboys (2010), Buffalo Bills (2010-14) and the Patriots. He originally entered the NFL as a fourth-round draft pick (129th overall) by San Diego in 2007 out of Iowa. He has played in 90 NFL games with 39 starts and has totaled 205 receptions for 2,379 yards and 21 touchdowns. 

LaFell, 29, was signed by the Patriots as an unrestricted free agent from Carolina on March 17, 2014. The 6-foot-3, 210-pounder, played in 16 games with 13 starts during his first season with New England and posted career highs with 74 receptions for 953 yards and seven touchdowns. He added 13 receptions for 119 yards with two touchdowns, including an 11-yard touchdown in Super Bowl XLIX. LaFell was limited to 11 games with seven starts in 2015 due to injury and finished with 37 receptions for 515 yards in the regular season. He played in both postseason games last season with one start and added three receptions for six yards. LaFell originally entered the NFL as a third-round draft pick (78th overall) by Carolina in 2010 out of Louisiana State. During his six NFL seasons, LaFell has played in 87 games with 56 starts and has accumulated 278 receptions for 3,853 yards with 20 touchdowns. He has played in six postseason games with five starts and has 20 additional receptions for 159 yards and two touchdowns.
