FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Patriots announced that they have released CB E.J. Biggers, RB Donald Brown and DL Frank Kearse.
Biggers, 29, was signed by the Patriots as an unrestricted free agent from Philadelphia on March 30, 2016. The 6-foot, 190-pounder, originally entered the NFL as a seventh-round draft pick (217th overall) by Tampa Bay out of Western Michigan in 2009 and is a veteran of seven NFL seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2009-12), Washington Redskins (2013-14) and the Philadelphia Eagles (2015). He has played in 92 NFL games with 34 starts and has 279 total tackles, one sack, four interceptions, 41 passes defensed and two forced fumbles. Biggers signed with Washington as an unrestricted free agent in 2013 and with Philadelphia as an unrestricted free agent in 2015. Last season with Philadelphia, he played in all 16 games with three starts and finished the year with 44 total tackles and seven passes defensed.Â
Brown, 29, was signed by the Patriots on March 17, 2016. The 5-foot-10, 205-pounder, originally joined the NFL as a first-round draft pick (27th overall) of Indianapolis out of Connecticut in the 2009 NFL Draft and is a veteran of seven NFL seasons with Indianapolis (2009-13) and San Diego (2014-15). He was released by San Diego on March 3, 2016. He signed with San Diego as an unrestricted free agent from Indianapolis on March 11, 2014. Brown has played in 89 NFL games with 25 starts and has 695 rushing attempts for 2,829 yards and 18 touchdowns and 120 receptions for 1,066 yards with two touchdowns. Last season with San Diego, he played in 10 games with two starts and finished with 59 rushing attempts for 229 yards and one touchdown and also caught eight passes for 88 yards.Â
Kearse, 27, was signed by the Patriots as an unrestricted free agent from Washington on March 11, 2016. The 6-foot-5, 310-pounder, originally entered the NFL as a seventh round draft pick (231st overall) by Miami out of Alabama A&M in the 2011 NFL Draft and is a veteran of five NFL seasons with Carolina (2011-12), Dallas (2013) and Washington (2014-15). He has also spent time on the practice squads of Miami (2011) and Tennessee (2013). Kearse has played in 35 games with eight starts and has 43 total tackles, 5½ sacks and one pass defensed. After starting his rookie campaign on the Miami practice squad, he was signed by Carolina to the 53-man roster and rotated between the Panthers practice squad and 53-man roster during his rookie season. Kearse was released by Carolina at the end of training camp in 2013 and started the season on the Tennessee practice squad, before being signed to the 53-man roster by Dallas.
