The New England Patriots return to the confines of Gillette Stadium after a two-game road trip. After the Patriots win at Denver, the team trained at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs prior to their trip to Mexico City to face the Oakland Raiders.
The 33-8 victory over the Raiders last Sunday guaranteed a finish of .500 or better for the 17th straight season, tying the Cleveland Browns (1957-73) for the second longest streak to the Dallas Cowboys with 21 straight seasons (1965-85).
With a win this week against Miami, the Patriots will improve to 9-2 and guarantee a winning record for the 17th straight season to break a tie with San Francisco (1983-98) and Dallas (1970-85) for the most consecutive winning seasons since the 1970 merger.
SERIES HISTORY
The New England Patriots and Miami Dolphins will square off for the 104th time, including three playoff games and for the first of two meetings in 2017. It is the 52nd year as division foes.
Last season the Patriots swept the season series for the 10th time with a 31-24 win at Gillette Stadium on Sept. 18 followed by a 35-14 victory at Miami on Jan. 1 in the regular-season finale. The win at Miami last seaosn snapped a three-game losing streak against the Dolphins in Miami.
The Patriots have had the upper hand at home against Miami, holding a 33-17 record in games played in New England in the regular-season, including a 13-2 record at Gillette Stadium. But the Patriots are only 16-36 all-time in Miami, including two postseason games. Miami beat the Patriots at Gillette Stadium for the first time in the final game of the 2005 season, 28-26, when Patriots starting QB Tom Brady was pulled out of action after the first quarter. Miami also beat the Patriots, 38-13, at Gillette Stadium, on Sept. 21, 2008.
The Dolphins and Patriots met for the first time in 1966 and began playing twice a year during the regular season in 1967, except in 1982 during the strike year. The Patriots swept the series nine times.
The two have played three times in the postseason with New England holding a 2-1 advantage.

One of those losses was in the final game of the 2005 season when Brady was pulled after the first quarter.
