FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount has been named AFC Offensive Player of the Month for September by the National Football League. It is the first time in his career that he has earned an Offensive Player of the Month Award, and it is the first for the Patriots since QB Tom Brady and K Stephen Gostkowski earned Player of the Month Awards for September in 2015.
Blount leads the NFL with 298 rushing yards and 99.3 yards per game and is tied for the NFL-lead with four rushing touchdowns. Blount rushed for back-to-back 100 yards games and has scored at least one rushing touchdown in all three games so far in 2016. He gained 105 yards rushing against Houston, a week after gaining 123 yards vs. Miami. It was his 12th NFL 100-yard rushing game in the regular season. He has now rushed for over 100 yards in back-to-back games three times in his career.
His four rushing touchdowns in the first three games ties Marion Butts (1994) and Corey Dillon (2005) for the most for the Patriots in the first three games.
It is the third time this season that a Patriots player has earned an NFL honor in 2016. K Stephen Gostkowski was named AFC Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance in the win at Arizona on Sept. 11, and P Ryan Allen was named AFC Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance vs. Houston on Sept. 22.
