The New England Patriots finished the 2017 regular season with a 13-3 record and earned the top seed in the AFC playoff field for the second straight season and for the seventh time overall, the most in the NFL since the current format was established in 1990.
The Patriots will host a Divisional Playoff game against Tennessee on Saturday, January 13, at 8:15 p.m. This season marks the eighth straight year that the Patriots will host a Divisional Playoff game, adding to their NFL record. Miami hosted five straight from 1981 through 1985.
SERIES HISTORY
The New England Patriots and Tennessee Titans (formerly the Houston Oilers) will play for the 42nd time since the two charter members of the American Football League began play in 1960. The Patriots and Oilers played twice each year from 1960-1969 in the AFL, and have played 21 times since the AFL-NFL merger in 1970. In those 21 post-merger games, the Patriots have a 14-7 record, including a 1-1 mark in playoff games.
The Patriots and the Tennessee franchise met two times in the postseason. In 1978, The Houston Oilers beat New England 31-14 in an AFC Divisional matchup at Foxborough. The Patriots beat the Titans, 17-14, in a 2003 postseason game to advance to the AFC Championship game.
New England leads the overall series, 24-16-1 and owns an 12-3 record against the Titans franchise since 1981.
The last time Tennessee traveled to New England came during the 2015 season when the Patriots beat Tennessee, 33-16, in a game played in the at Gillette Stadium on Dec.. 20, 2015.

PASSING PERFORMANCES
Tom Brady will face off against the Titans for the second time in the postseason and for the eighth time overall. He has recorded a 6-1 record as a starter against Tennessee and has won each of his last six starts against the Titans including leading the Patriots to a victory from a fourth-quarter tie in the 2003 divisional playoffs and leading his team to a win from a fourth-quarter deficit in the 2003 regular season.
PATRIOTS IN THE PLAYOFFS
The Patriots have qualified for the playoffs 25 times in their 58-year history. Nineteen of those playoff berths have come in the 24 seasons since Robert Kraft purchased the team in 1994, a dramatic contrast to the six total playoff berths the team earned in its first 34 years of existence. The Patriots have won 20 division crowns, including 15 in the last 17 seasons and 17 of which have come since Robert Kraft's purchase in 1994.
PATRIOTS AT HOME IN THE PLAYOFFS
The Patriots are 20-4 (.833) at home in the playoffs in their history. Twenty- three of the franchise's 24 home playoff games have taken place since Robert Kraft purchased the team 24 years ago. After Kraft bought the team, the Patriots won 11 consecutive home playoff games before experiencing a home loss.
PATRIOTS IN THE DIVISIONAL ROUND
The Patriots have compiled a 14-6 all-time record in divisional playoff games, and are 9-4 in the conference title game.
