The preseason schedule was announced on Wednesday and the Patriots will once again have some familiar opponents in the summer.
New England will open during the week of Aug. 7-10 at Washington. The home opener takes place the following week (Aug. 14-17) against Philadelphia and the Patriots will remain in Foxborough to take on Carolina (Aug. 21-24) in Week 3. As is typically the case, the Patriots will close out of the exhibition slate against the Giants, this one coming at Met Life Stadium, a game likely to be played Aug. 28.
The schedule should allow Bill Belichick the opportunity to continue working with Eagles coach Chip Kelly, an arrangement first instituted by the teams last season in Philly. With the Eagles in town for Week 2, look for the Patriots and Eagles to hold a couple of days of joint practices prior to the game.
Belichick has not held practices with either Washington or Carolina in the past, so if the Patriots are to repeat last year's pattern of working with multiple teams (Tampa Bay came to Foxborough early last year) it will have to be with a new partner.
The dates and times of those games will be mutually decided upon between the two teams and announced at a later date. The NFL schedule for the 2014 regular season will be announced by the league later this spring.
