Bears, Peterson agree to three-year extension

Chicago Bears running back Adrian Peterson agreed to a three-year contract extension through 2009. The Bears also signed receiver Alex Bannister to a one-year contract and released cornerback Chris Thompson and wide receivers C.J.

LAKE FOREST, Ill. (June 28, 2006) -- Chicago Bears running back Adrian Peterson agreed to a three-year contract extension through 2009.

The Bears also signed receiver Alex Bannister to a one-year contract and released cornerback Chris Thompson and wide receivers C.J. Fayton and Mark Philmore.

A sixth-round draft pick in 2002, Peterson rushed for a career-high 391 yards on 76 carries -- 5.1-yard average -- last season. Seven runs were for more than 15 yards, including two for more than 30. He also ranked third on the team with 18 special teams tackles.
