Few players are as close to Tom Brady as Wes Welker so when news came down revealing the former Patriots receiver would be suspended for the first four games of the regular season for violating the league's policy on performance-enhancing drugs it was only natural to wonder how the Patriots quarterback felt about it.
While Brady said he felt for his buddy, he would not get into any specifics about the situation.
"I don't have a lot of thoughts or comments on that," Brady said. "That's Wes' situation, and their team. Obviously I've got plenty to worry about with this week and this team. As a friend, you always hope for the best, but it's not friend time, this is opponent time, and my focus is on the Dolphins."
Welker and Brady were together at the Kentucky Derby in May, and reports indicated that Welker's failed test came about due to a substance he took while there. Welker denies taking any such drugs, but the suspension nonetheless was held up by the league.
Since Brady was with Welker, he was asked if he saw the wideout take anything at the time. Brady laughed at the question and added "I've got no comment on that. No."
