ST. LOUIS (AP) - Denver Broncos running back Laurence Maroney has been arrested in St. Louis accused of possessing drugs and a weapon.
St. Louis police say five people were arrested in an Infiniti Monday night carrying marijuana and a gun, but declined to name the suspects.
Publicist Jane Higgins on Tuesday confirmed Maroney was among those arrested. She says the 25-year-old athlete has a permit to carry a gun, and denies he is accused of possessing drugs.
No formal charges have been filed.
A Broncos spokesman declined to comment.
Maroney is a native of the St. Louis area who was drafted 21st overall by the New England Patriots out of Minnesota in 2006.
He was traded to Denver in September, but played in just four games for the Broncos.
