Dolphins Postgame Quotes

Miami Dolphins players comment on their game against the New England Patriots at Gillette Stadium on Sunday, January 2, 2011.

Jake Long, Tackle(On inability of offense to get anything going)
"We couldn't get the running game going and then they were getting pressure on the quarterbacks. We just couldn't get it rolling."

(On play of quarterbacks)
"[They] got pressure up front and we've got to get better at that, because then we've got [the quarterbacks] getting hit and running around, it can't be comfortable back there."

(On what happens in off-season)
"I have no clue. We are going to go in and just get better, whoever is here. We are going to correct our mistakes, work hard in the off-season, get better and not do this again."

Tyler Thigpen, Quarterback
(On game)
"We came up here with one goal in mind, to get a win, and obviously that didn't happen. We are definitely disappointed as a group offensively."

(On difficulty in playing as part of a quarterback rotation)
"That's the coaches decision, so whatever they decide, if they decide every other play we are switching, we've got to do it, we've got to be professionals. We tried to handle it as best as we could."

(On assessment of his performance)
"I did some good things and some bad things. The biggest thing I wanted to do was not turn the ball over. Obviously we wanted to put more points on the board, but the biggest thing we wanted offensively was that we didn't want to get shut out. We got shut out against Chicago the last time I played and I know for myself, that was something in my head to go down there and score some points."

Kendall Langford, Defensive End
(On the loss)
"It was difficult, frustrating, disappointing and embarrassing, it was all those things. We let each other down, the coaching staff, and the organization. What went on out there is not acceptable at all. That definitely wasn't not good ball and we didn't play good ball and it showed."

Vontae Davis, Cornerback
(On the Defense)
"They were playing to try to control the game and they wanted us to play in their favor."

(On the offense)
"They did what they had to do. It was disappointing they didn't put up any points. The thing is we were in there together."

Cameron Wake, Linebacker
(On the loss)
"That was not very Miami Dolphin like."

(On the Patriots' domination)
"As dominating as they were, we were terrible. You go out there all week and you know the situation, you know what we were playing for, and then to come out like this, it was terrible."

Benny Sapp, Cornerback(On the game)
"An outcome like this is not what we prepared for. It is just the way it worked out. We felt good and everybody was ready. We just didn't pull it through and it didn't come together. It didn't happen for us today. Shout out to those guys (the Patriots) they played a good game. "

(On preparation and Coach Sparano)
"This is job and this is a business. We get paid just like they do. We came out ready to play. He (Sparano) is such a good coach. You just hate to see it go down like that, especially when you work so hard during the week getting us motivated. There is always next year. I hope that this is one of those games that will open some people's eyes and they are ready to come out wherever they are next season. It is a wake up call for a lot of people, including myself. I just didn't play the way I wanted to and I just want to be better. It just didn't turn out that way."

Richie Incognito, Guard
(On the Game)
"It is tough. We got manhandled and there is no explanation. We were prepared for this game and guys came out and played hard. I don't think you saw a team that laid down and died. I think you just a saw team (the Patriots) that executed better and was more efficient and played the game the way it was supposed to be played. It is tough when you don't do the things you are supposed to do out there on the field. I don't think the gap is that big between these two teams but they are obviously playing better football than us right now."

Brandon Fields, Punter
(On the punt return for a TD)
"As a unit we just didn't get the job done. From a kick coverage and a kick standpoint obviously everyone could have done a better job. We could have made the tackle on the 10-yard line, or inside the 20. Different situations call for different kicks. I have to look at the tape to see what I could have done differently. In hindsight I could have kicked it higher and shorter."

Davone Bess, Wide Receiver(On the TD)
"The quarterback just gave me an opportunity to make a play on the ball. It was nothing special. I was just going out and trying to compete for my team. Regardless of the circumstances, the outcome of the game, the way it went, we still have to compete until the game is over."

(On the team's energy level)
"We were fired up. All week, we had a good week of practice. We got to the game and just didn't execute. It's as simple as that."

(On Tyler Thigpen)
"He did all he could. We all gave the best we could."

(On the coach saying they put themselves in this position)
"He was 100 percent right. You never want to be in that predicament and feel the way we felt after this game. We had plenty of opportunities to go out there and win the ballgame. It was 14 zip for quite a bit and we lolly-gagged and did not put points on the board. We go out and tried to win the ballgame. Nobody put it on cruise control. We went out expecting to win the ballgame and we didn't."

Ricky Williams, Running Back
(On the season)
"I think it's always a disappointment when you don't make the playoffs, whether it's your rookie year or you are a veteran. You play this game to win and when you don't win it is not as much fun."

(On the Patriots)
"They are on a roll, they won what, 8 games in a row and we have lost 3 games in a row? They are going up and we are going down so that's what happens."

(On if he will come back next season)
"I don't know, I don't know. I will take some time and think about it."

Ronnie Brown, Running Back
(On the Patriots)
"Against a team like this obviously you have to capitalize on the opportunities. You got to be clicking on all cylinders. They are just fundamentally fast and they don't make a lot of mistakes and they have guys in the right places. They can make plays when they need to."

(On the disappointment of losing)
"Nobody tries to lose. We work at it. We are passionate at what we do. Same thing with the coaches, they put so much into it and to come up short, it's tough. You put so much into a craft and you work so hard to win that when you don't, it is tough to swallow. For us to come out and have the performance that we had was disappointing."
