Falcons give the boot: P Mohr out, Gowin in

The Atlanta Falcons signed punter Toby Gowin and released Chris Mohr, who punted for them the past four seasons.

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. (March 8, 2005) -- The Atlanta Falcons signed punter Toby Gowin and released Chris Mohr, who punted for them the past four seasons.

Gowin, an eight-year veteran, punted 80 times with a 38.2 average in 16 games for the New York Jets in 2004.

Gowin also has kicked off in his career. He broke into the NFL with the Dallas Cowboys in 1997 through 1999 and has also played for the New Orleans Saints and Jets.

Mohr, a 14-year veteran, had a 40.6 average in 2004.

Atlanta also re-signed backup offensive lineman Steve Herndon.
