LITTLETON, Colo. (Feb. 6, 2006) -- Former NFL cornerback Willie Middlebrooks pleaded guilty to assaulting a female friend in her home last year.
Middlebrooks received an 18-month deferred jail sentence and was ordered to complete nine months of domestic violence classes, said district attorney spokeswoman Kathleen Walsh. He had been charged with misdemeanor assault.
Middlebrooks played for the Denver Broncos before he was traded in July 2005 to San Francisco. He was waived in December after a season-ending leg injury.
The woman said Middlebrooks assaulted her in her home on New Year's Day 2005 after an argument. She was treated for minor injuries at a hospital, Sheriff Grayson Robinson said.
Defense attorney Harvey Steinberg did not immediately return a call.
