The New England Patriots open the 2019 preseason against the Detroit Lions this Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. The Patriots will travel to Detroit for three joint practices with the Lions from Monday, Aug. 5 to Wednesday, Aug. 7, before the teams square off in the 2019 preseason opener at Ford Field.
The Patriots and Lions will play each other for the 10th time in the preseason, with Detroit holding a 6-3 edge in the series. The two teams most recently met in the preseason in 2017, with the Patriots taking a 30-28 win over the Lions in Detroit.
SERIES HISTORY
The New England Patriots will face the Detroit Lions in the preseason for the 10th time in team history and for the seventh time in Detroit. It will also be the fourth straight preseason game against the Lions that will be played at Ford Field. Overall, the Lions are 6-3 against the Patriots in preseason games. The two teams are scheduled for three joint practice sessions prior to the preseason game.
The Patriots and Lions met in Week 3 of the 2018 season in a 26-10 victory by Detroit at Ford Field on Sept. 23, 2018. The Patriots lead the all-time regular season series by a 7-5 margin.
On Nov. 23, 2000, Patriots quarterback Tom Brady made his NFL debut against the Lions in a 34-9 Detroit win at the Pontiac Silverdome on Thanksgiving Day. Brady entered the game late in the fourth quarter and completed one-of-three passes for 6 yards.

BROADCAST INFORMATION
TELEVISION: This week's game will be broadcast by the Patriots Preseason Television Network and can be seen in every New England state, as well as Alaska and Hawaii. The preseason network's flagship station is WBZ-TV CBS in Boston. Bob Socci provides the play-by-play and is joined by former Patriots quarterback Scott Zolak in the broadcast booth. Former Patriots linebacker Rob Ninkovich will provide sideline analysis along with WBZ's Steve Burton.
