The New England Patriots stayed on the offensive in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft, selecting Ohio State running back TreVeyon Henderson with the 38th overall pick. After securing LSU offensive tackle Will Campbell at No. 4 to bolster protection for quarterback Drake Maye, the Patriots continued to invest in their offensive arsenal by adding the dynamic backfield threat just off a national championship.
Henderson burst onto the college football scene as a freshman in 2021, amassing 1,248 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns, along with 312 receiving yards and four touchdowns. Despite battling injuries in subsequent seasons, he rebounded impressively in 2024, averaging 7.1 yards per carry for 1,016 yards and 10 touchdowns, while also contributing 284 receiving yards and a touchdown.
The Virginia native possesses rare acceleration and top-end speed, making him a home-run threat on any carry and demonstrates exceptional patience behind the line, allowing blocks to develop before making decisive cuts.

Henderson's biggest strength might be his reliability as a receiver out of the backfield. He will give offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels plenty to work with on third downs and his skill set will complement the Patriots existing offensive backfield of Rhamondre Stevenson and Antonio Gibson, providing a boost of youth and versatility.
Henderson should contribute immediately as a change-of-pace back and third-down option, and bring an element of needed explosiveness to an evolving Patriots offense.
