The Eagles officially released veteran defensive tackle Cullen Jenkins (6-2, 305) on Monday.
Jenkins is a guy who can bring an interior pass rush, and might be someone the Patriots would consider adding to a somewhat lean defensive line depth chart.
Remember, Bill Belichick raved about Jenkins' ability during and NFL Network interview a few years back when the defensive lineman was a member of the Packers.
The Patriots also tried to add a veteran Jenkins-like player last offseason with the reported interest in Red Bryant and eventual signing of Jonathan Fanene. While the Fanene signing didn't work out, Jenkins might be an enticing option to fill that role moving forward.
Jenkins played in all 16 games over each of the last two seasons in Philly. He had four sacks last fall and 5.5 back in 2011. His presence could only benefit guys like Chandler Jones and Rob Ninkovich.
As we keep an eye on the Patriots improving the roster and beginning the offseason process, Jenkins is a name to watch out for in New England.
