ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (Oct. 16, 2005) -- Jets Pro Bowl center Kevin Mawae hurt his elbow in the second half of the Jets' 27-17 loss to Buffalo.
Coach Herman Edwards said Mawae was having X-rays taken, and will know more about the 12-year veteran Oct. 17. Mawae and backup center Jonathan Goodwin had problems with snaps to quarterback Vinny Testaverde in the game.
Testaverde botched one exchange midway through the third quarter with Mawae, but running back Curtis Martin recovered the fumble.
Down by 10 with 4:54 remaining in the game, Goodwin and Testaverde muffed a snap, with Buffalo's London Fletcher pouncing on the loose ball.
"It's inexcusable," Testaverde said. "It's unfortunate, but when those situations come up we have to go on as if nothing ever happened with Kevin."
Following that miscue, guard Pete Kendall took over for Goodwin.
Cornerback Ty Law was also hampered all day with back and groin problems. Law was beaten on Buffalo's first two scoring plays.
In the first quarter, Law missed a tackle on Jonathan Smith 's 8-yard touchdown reception, and then slipped while covering Eric Moulds, who converted Kelly Holcomb 's pass for a 15-yard touchdown.
Law was used sporadically in the second half.
Backup CB Derrick Strait (mild concussion) and backup S Oliver Celestin (knee) also were hurt but returned to the game.
