HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (Aug. 12, 2007) -- The New York Jets released former Virginia Commonwealth basketball star Jesse Pellot-Rosa, who was trying to make the team as a wide receiver.
The Jets also released offensive lineman Andrew Wicker and signed wide receiver Dante Ridgeway.
Pellot-Rosa, signed as an undrafted free agent in May, was sidelined early in camp with a hand injury -- a significant setback because the Jets are deep at the wide-receiver spot. He played briefly in the Jets' preseason opener, a victory against Atlanta on Aug. 10.
Pellot-Rosa helped lead the Rams to a Colonial Athletic Association title and a first-round upset of Duke in the NCAA tournament in March. After last playing organized football in high school, Pellot-Rosa gave the NFL a shot.
Wicker was signed as an undrafted rookie free agent in May after playing all five positions on the offensive line for Mississippi last season.
Ridgeway, who had two catches for the Jets in 2005, returns to New York after spending the beginning of training camp with New Orleans.
