FOXBOROUGH, Mass. –** Julian Edelman has been named AFC Special Teams Player of the Week by the National Football League for his performance in the Patriots' 43-21 victory over the Denver Broncos last Sunday. It is the second time in Edelman's career that he has received an AFC Special Teams Player of the Week Honor. He earned his first award in Week 11 of the 2011 season.
Edelman returned a second quarter punt 84 yards for a touchdown and now has a franchise-record four punt returns for touchdowns. Edelman has returned 125 punts for 1,568 yards during his career and is first in team history and fourth in NFL history with a 12.5 average.
It is the third AFC Player of the Week honor for the Patriots in 2014. Chandler Jones was named AFC Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in the win at Minnesota on Sept. 14, and DL Chris Jones was named AFC Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance in the win vs. the New York Jets on Oct. 16. In addition, QB Tom Brady was named AFC Offensive Player of the Month for October.
