The draft is set to get underway tonight but the Patriots don't figure to be a big part of it – at least initially. New England is currently without picks in the first two rounds so it would take a significant trade for Bill Belichick to jump into the action on Thursday night.
ESPNBoston.com doesn't see it as a problem because they say the team already made its first-round pick … Brandin Cooks. The Boston Herald agrees and doesn’t feel the Patriots even need a draft this year.
They also have some thoughts on a pair of players the Patriots recently hosted in Foxborough and wonder where each might fit into the equation.
The Boston Globe believes there’s a lot of uncertainty surrounding the first round of this year's draft. The Herald offers five things to watch for in the draft. The Patriot Ledger says there will be a lot of waiting around for the Patriots.
The Herald also looks at a possible hidden gem out of Villanova as well as some other edge rushers who might be available. CSNNE.com says a tight end out of Iowa might make sense. They offer some other options they feel would be prototypical Patriots.
The lack of picks hasn’t stopped the locals from creating some mock drafts.
