The final day of the Patriots three-day mandatory mini-camp wrapped up on Thursday under sunny skies and warm temperatures in Foxborough. The biggest news of the day did not take place on the field, however.
NFL Network was first to report that Julian Edelman agreed to a contract extension with the Patriots and ESPNBoston.com has the details. CSNNE.com offers five takeaways from the Edelman extension.
On the field there was still plenty to talk about. Dion Lewis says he’s feeling as good as he has since 2015 and ESPNBoston.com agrees. MassLive.com also checks in with the shifty running back. The Boston Globe's notebook leads with Eric Rowe explaining why he doesn’t gloat when he gets the better of Tom Brady at practice.
The Boston Herald says Brandin Cooks will provide even more explosiveness to the Patriots offense. The notebook includes an item about Malcolm Butler missing the final workout.
The Providence Journal has Trey Flowers working hard to make sure his strong season wasn't a fluke. Also, Jimmy Garoppolo will one day get a chance to prove his worth. Cyrus Jones is putting his disappointing rookie season behind him.
CSNNE.com has Bill Belichick offering very little when it comes to discussing the new rule changes as well as some takeaways from the final day of mini-camp.
