Despite the Jets dismal 3-8 record, ESPNBoston.com called the Patriots 22-17 victory at MetLife Stadium the Patriots best of the year. Give some credit to the defense on a day when the offense struggled. The Boston Herald agrees, citing the first turnovers the unit has created in a month.
Conversely, the Boston Globe says a win is a win but there were plenty of things to be concerned about. CSNNE.com has similar feelings as the Globe, wondering what’s ahead for the suddenly banged-up Patriots.
ESPN,com says Tom Brady's greatness was captured on a day when he was otherwise not at his best. His 200th-career victory may have been his toughest. The Boston Herald says it was a fitting way for Brady to earn such a milestone. NESN.com agrees that Brady’s gimpy knee cause some problems with his accuracy.
The victory came at a price, however, as Rob Gronkowski left early with a back injury.
Chris Long has had a disappointing first season in New England but ESPNBoston.com says his part-time work load allowed him to be fresh to make the key strip sack down the stretch. Malcolm Mitchell's strong played earned him a spot among the stars of the game. The rookie even got the better of Darrelle Revis at times.
The Providence Journal offers some praise of the Patriots for coming through on a day when their stars didn't shine.
