Panthers sign defensive lineman Ellison to deal

The Carolina Panthers have reached a three-year agreement with third-round draft pick Atiyyah Ellison, a defensive lineman expected to battle for a backup job.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (July 27, 2005) -- The Carolina Panthers have reached a three-year agreement with third-round draft pick Atiyyah Ellison, a defensive lineman expected to battle for a backup job.

Ellison is expected to play behind starters Kris Jenkins, a two-time All-Pro, and Brentson Buckner, a longtime veteran who is considered one of the emotional leaders on defense.

Ellison started 31 starts games during his career at Missouri and tallied 171 tackles and 6.5 sacks. He was a first-team All-Big 12 selection as a senior, when he had 60 tackles, 2.5 sacks and four quarterback pressures.
