FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - The New England Patriots announced that they have released defensive lineman Mario Monds.
Monds, 28, was signed by the Patriots on Aug. 2, 2005. The 6-foot-3-inch, 342-pound defensive lineman was originally drafted by the Washington Redskins in the sixth round (186th overall) of the 2001 NFL Draft. He was waived by Washington following 2001 training camp, then joined the Cincinnati Bengals for the 2002 season, where he played in two games as a rookie. The University of Cincinnati product was waived by the Bengals prior to the 2003 regular season and spent the remainder of the year out of football. Monds went to training camp with the New York Giants in 2004 and spent the first seven weeks of the season on the Giants' practice squad before being signed to the Miami Dolphins' 53-man roster on Oct. 27, 2004. Monds spent the final nine weeks of the 2004 season on the Dolphins' active roster and saw action in five games. The Ft. Pierce, Fla. native has recorded four career tackles (2 solo) in seven NFL games.
