FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Patriots announced that they have released P Ryan Allen. Allen was re-signed by the Patriots as an unrestricted free agent on March 22, 2019.
Allen, 29, originally signed with New England as a rookie free agent out of Louisiana Tech on May 3, 2013. The 6-foot-2, 220-pounder appeared in 96 regular-season games over six seasons with the Patriots and totaled 409 punts for a 45.3-yard average with 34 touchbacks and 153 kicks downed inside the opponent 20-yard line. Allen has also played in 16 career postseason contests and punted 58 times for a 42.9-yard average with five touchbacks and 25 kicks downed inside the opponent 20-yard line.
Last season, Allen played in all 16 games regular-season games and finished seventh in the NFL with a 45.1-yard average. He also punted in all three postseason games, including five punts for a 43.0-yard average with three punts inside the 20-yard line in the Super Bowl LIII victory over the Los Angeles Rams.
