The veteran running back hasn't specifically said this will be his final season, but Faulk seemed to be leaning that way in conversations this week.
If so, it's a tough way for a great contributor to wrap up a stellar career of playmaking out of the Patriots backfield.
Obviously adding a fourth Super Bowl ring to his collection would soften the blow considerably, and the always-team-oriented Faulk is no doubt already thinking in those terms.
Joining Faulk on the inactive list are quarterback Ryan Mallett, offensive linemen Donald Thomas and Nick McDonald, defensive lineman Ron Brace, linebacker Gary Guyton and running back Shane Vereen.
That means Alex Silvestro, who was activated from the practice squad to replace Tiquan Underwood Saturday night, will indeed be active, as expected. It also means Stevan Ridley and Chad Ochocinco will be in uniform against the Giants. Both were inactive in the AFC title game win over Baltimore two weeks ago.
Also, Rob Gronkowski and Sebastian Vollmer are both active, as had been widely assumed all week.
