Martellus Bennett wants you to read with him and his family ... and millions of other people. In a video for Jumpstart, a national early education organization aimed at encouraging literacy and preparing kids before they enter kindergarten, Marty extended an invitation to all for the world's largest day of shared reading.
Read for the Record is Jumpstart's 11th annual national campaign to encourage family reading time and is set to take place on Oct. 27. The idea is to get millions of people reading the same book on the same day, and last year, more than two million readers participated. The video opened with a mysterious advocate, hiding his face with a book, bear cutout and giant sunglasses before Marty's big reveal.
Marty has never been shy about his passion for storytelling, so it is no surprise he and his family will be sitting back, relaxing and reading come Thursday. Reading regularly seems to be a common ritual in the Bennett household, and Marty even kicked off a book club on his Instagram page to share his love of books with his followers.
"Uncle Smarty's Awesome Book Club" launched earlier this month, and Marty has been posting about his favorite books and how they have inspired him as a storyteller, reader and father. He is even running a giveaway through is company, The Imagination Agency.
The featured book for this year's "Read for the Record" is "The Bear Ate Your Sandwich" by Julia Sarcone-Roach. To make sure Patriots Nation is present and accounted for, register you and your family for the day of shared reading here.
