As the NFL's free agent signing period continues into its second week, the reigning Super Bowl champion Patriots remain focused on retaining their own free agents. Late Tuesday, news broke of veteran punter Ryan Allen deciding to stay in Foxborough.
If the report proves true, Allen would become the sixth Patriots free agent this year either to agree to terms on a new deal or be offered a restricted tender. Since originally winning the punting job as an undrafted rookie in 2013, Allen has become a reliable performer particularly in plus-50 punting and as the holder for kicker Stephen Gostkowski's placekicks.
Speaking of Gostkowski, he remains unsigned, but with most, if not all NFL teams already having established kickers on their rosters, it might seem like only a matter of time before Gostkowski and the Patriots come to terms.
