It was hard to estimate the value of pulling Tom Brady's NFL draft card back in 2000, but two decades later, no one knows the return it paid more than Robert Kraft.
So when presented with the opportunity to cash out on yet another Brady rookie card, the New England Patriots chairman and CEO took it, paying $120,000 for a Tom Brady 2000 Playoff Contenders Rookie Ticket Autograph at the Sotheby's and Fanatics "Holy Grails" auction.
Brady was sitting right beside him when Kraft placed the winning bid.
The rookie card is one of four Brady cards that sold at Tuesday's auction, marking the first partnership between Fanatics and Sotheby's as Fanatics continues to grow its business.
Kraft, a friend of CEO Michael Rubin who invested in Fanatics, reportedly played an important part in advocating for the company to strike exclusive deals with the NFL.
Brady's relationship with Fanatics is also strong, with the company endorsing the retired quarterback.
Hopefully, for Kraft, this card will pay off just like pulling Brady's draft card did with their 199th selection in the 2000 NFL Draft.
