BREAKDOWN: This really comes down to how quickly Garoppolo can assimilate to the NFL game. Judging from his college tape there is no questioning his physical skills. The rookie throws an accurate ball with plenty of velocity, but that's just a small part of what he'll need to do to succeed. His first order of business will be proving he can beat out Mallett for the backup job, and if he can there's a very good chance Mallett will spend the season elsewhere. If not, the Patriots will keep three quarterbacks for the first time since 2011, when Mallett himself was a rookie.
