Saban: Fines for Dolphins pair not fair

Miami Dolphins coach Nick Saban took exception to fines imposed by the NFL against Wes Welker and Tebucky Jones. Receiver Welker and safety Jones were fined $5,000 apiece for penalties they committed Sept.

DAVIE, Fla. (Oct. 3, 2005) -- Miami Dolphins coach Nick Saban took exception to fines imposed by the NFL against Wes Welker and Tebucky Jones.

Receiver Welker and safety Jones were fined $5,000 apiece for penalties they committed Sept. 25 against Carolina. Welker was penalized for an illegal crack-back block, Jones for grabbing the facemask of quarterback Jake Delhomme on a sack.

"Football is football," Saban said. "When guys don't do things that are intentional to hurt somebody, which neither one of those things were, I think it's a little ridiculous. And it happens every week. It's not fair to the players."
