United States Army National Guard Lieutenant Colonel Michael J. Greene was born in Eerie, Pennsylvania on May 25, 1969 and was a loving son of LTC Edward Greene, Ret. and Kathleen (Raftery) Greene.Â
As part of a military family, he traveled the world and lived in many places. Michael was awarded a commission in the US Army through the ROTC program at Georgetown University and met his wife, Kate, while they were both students at George Washington University, in Washington, D.C.Â
While residing in Mansfield, Massachusetts, Mike served his dream job as a full-time soldier in the Massachusetts National Guard with a rank of Lieutenant Colonel at the time of his passing. He spent a year-long tour in Kabul, Afghanistan in 2010 with the 101-FA. He took great pride in his job, serving our country but most importantly enjoyed working alongside his fellow soldiers. Upon his return, he was able to fulfill a dream to take both boys to their first Patriots game at Gillette Stadium. Â
Kate and Mike were happily married for 18 years and had the joy of raising their two loving boys, Owen and Liam. Mike was an avid football fan and would spend most weekends watching the New England Patriots on television with his boys. This included watching during hospital visits and even while sick in hospice.Â
Michael passed away on February 10, 2013, after a courageous 18-month battle with cancer.
