Petty Officer Second Class William C. Joppru was born on June 27, 1984, in Pittsfield, Massachusetts and grew up in the Berkshires where he graduated from Wahconah Regional High School in 2002.
He entered active duty Naval Service in August 2005 and attended Basic Training at the Naval Training Center in Great Lake, Illinois. Following completion of Basic Training, William attended Basic Enlisted Submarine School in Groton, Connecticut.
Throughout his life, Will loved the outdoors. He was an avid fisherman and a great skier. He was a lifelong fan of all Boston sports teams including the New England Patriots.
William, a Machinist's Mate, died unexpectedly on March 17, 2009 while he was stationed aboard the USS West Virginia in King's Bay, Georgia. William's personal awards and decorations include the Navy and Marine Corp. Achievement Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Medal, the Expert Pistol Medal and the Expert Rifle Medal. He received several achievement awards, including one from The Secretary of Navy for his outstanding performance.
