KIRKLAND, Wash. (March 16, 2006) -- The Seattle Seahawks re-signed cornerback Jimmy Williams to a one-year contract.
Williams joined the Seahawks during Week 3 of the 2005 season and served as the primary punt returner for most of the season. He averaged 5.8 yards per return, but was benched for the NFC championship and the Super Bowl after fumbling twice against Washington in Seattle's first playoff game. He was replaced for the rest of the playoffs by Peter Warrick.
Williams also served as an extra defensive back in Seattle's secondary. Williams started one game in place of Marcus Trufant, and finished with 23 tackles and two interceptions.
Williams, a five-year veteran, spent his first four seasons with San Francisco.
