Seventh-round pick Gates signs with Bills

Lionel Gates became the first 2005 draft pick to sign with the Buffalo Bills. Gates, a running back out of Louisville selected in the seventh round, had 310 carries for 1,475 yards and 20 touchdowns.

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (June 1, 2005) -- Lionel Gates became the first 2005 draft pick to sign with the Buffalo Bills.

Gates, a running back out of Louisville selected in the seventh round, had 310 carries for 1,475 yards and 20 touchdowns. He also caught 40 passes for 469 yards.

The 6-foot, 223-pound back led the Cardinals in rushing in 2003. Despite missing time with injuries during his senior season, he ran for 373 yards and seven touchdowns.
