As expected, the Patriots added free agent safety Rob Kelly to their roster late Tuesday.
A four-year veteran who has spent his entire career with New Orleans, Kelly has played 60 games, including 12 starts. He has 90 defensive tackles and 37 special teams stops, and also has four interceptions for 125 yards, including one that was returned 79 yards for a touchdown.
Originally a second-round draft pick, the 6-foot, 199-pound Kelly did not play at all in 2001. He'll get a chance to revive his career with the Patriots, who lost safety Matt Stevens to the expansion draft, released cornerback Terrance Shaw and are not expected to bring back unrestricted free agent Terrell Buckley.
