Patriots 21, Chargers 12After beating the Chargers 38-14 four months earlier, the Patriots had a tougher time in the rematch but prevailed to win their fifth AFC Championship in franchise history. Laurence Maroney paced the offense, rushing 25 times for 122 yards and a touchdown. After forcing a punt, the Patriots took over on their own 13 with 9:13 to go and ran out the clock with a 15-play, 66-yard drive.

Jan. 14, 2007. Patriots 24, Chargers 21, AFC Divisional RoundNew England trailed 21-13 in the fourth quarter but Tom Brady overcame a three-interception performance by rallying the Patriots in Southern California. After Brady hit Reche Caldwell for a four-yard TD with 4:36 to go, Kevin Faulk tied the game with a two-point conversion run. Stephen Gostkowski hit a go-ahead 31-yard field goal with 1:13 remaining and Nate Kaeding missed a 54-yard try with three seconds left. It was the second playoff meeting between the teams and first since the AFL title game in 1964. 

Oct. 24, 2010. Patriots 23, Charger 20After bolting to a 23-6 lead, the Patriots nearly blew it as the Chargers scored two fourth-quarter touchdowns but survived when Kris Brown missed a potential game-tying 50-yard field goal with 22 seconds left. Rob Gronkowski had a TD reception and Stephen Gostkowski kicked three field goals. 

Sept. 18, 2011. Patriots 35, Chargers 21Rob Gronkowski caught a 10-yard and 17-yard TD pass from Tom Brady to help offset two TD receptions by San Diego's Vincent Jackson. Vince Wilfork had an interception and returned it 28 yards to set up a Stephen Gostkowski 47-yard field goal on the final play of the first half. A 16-yard TD run by BenJarvus Green-Ellis with 1:54 to go helped put the game out of reach. 

Dec. 7, 2014. Patriots 23, Chargers 14Julian Edelman's career-long 69-yard TD reception from Tom Brady with 8:41 to go helped New England escape with a win after the Patriots trailed most of the game. Edelman finished with eight catches for 141 yards.
