Since August, President Bush has welcomed to the White House just one foreign leader _ the largely U.S.-installed interim prime minister of Iraq. No other meetings are on the horizon until Bush goes to Chile in late November for a gathering of Asia-Pacific leaders. The same period last fall was quite a different story: the president played host, in the Oval Office and at the Camp David presidential retreat, to leaders from seven nations while aides put out word of several more mini-summits to come. That disparity is just one example of how official presidential duties have been pared to a minimum as Bush concentrates on his super-close, bare-knuckles campaign to occupy the White House for another four years.
