It didn't take long for DeMario Douglas to establish himself as a Patriots fan favorite last year.
His rookie season saw him lead the New England Patriots in receiving yards, and the wide receiver out of Liberty is poised for a breakout sophomore season on and off the field.
Patriots.com caught up with Douglas after practice Thursday to learn where he got the nickname "Pop" and much more in the latest round of 21 Questions:
What is your first football memory?
I was five years old and I was playing with the Saints. I caught a pass one-handed and was wearing the number 11.
Did you have a favorite NFL team growing up and who was a player you loved to watch as a kid?
My favorite NFL team was the Jaguars. I was really looking up to college players because that was my goal -- to get to college first. I was watching Tavon Austin, De'Anthony Thomas. All of the quick-switch type players.
If you weren't an NFL player, what would you be doing for a living?
I have no idea. I didn't have a Plan B. I'm going to figure it out eventually but not yet.
If you could have dinner with anyone, dead or alive, who would you choose?
LeBron James. That's a billionaire and I'm trying to see how he got there.
What was your favorite part about growing up in Florida?
Not many kids are like this anymore, but we used to always be outside. Riding bikes, hooping -- everybody is on the games now. I like how we used to get to play because it was always hot.
How did the nickname 'Pop' originate?
My grandad died on my birthday when I turned one, and I walked up to the door and said 'Papa." Everyone started saying it and that's how I got my nickname. So it started as 'Papa' but a lot of grown men don't like calling me that (laughing)). So Pop just stuck.
What is something about you that might take someone by surprise?
That's a hard one, because I'm really an open book. I just love to laugh and smile but they might know that already.
What is your hottest hot take?
Spaghetti is the best food. Spaghetti and Alfredo sauce.
Do you have a favorite restaurant in the area yet?
Arya's.
Is your picture on the wall there yet?
Yes. That's like a rite of passage.
What is one meal you would never get sick of?
Cereal. Definitely.
What kind of cereal?
Fruity Pebbles. What's the one with the peanut butter and chocolate? Oh! Reese's Puffs. Both of those.
What is your dream car?
Oh, that's a good one. I want a (Lamborghini) Urus. No, no. I want a G Wagon for sure. I've got a Benz but I want a G Wagon.
What was the highlight of your rookie year in New England?
I would say my little breakout game against the Bills. (Week 7)
What are three things you could not live without?
Water. I drink a lot of water. I could live without my phone but I couldn't live without water. So water, food, and God. God should be first, though.
Who were some of your biggest influences growing up?
My uncles. I looked up a lot to my uncles.
Do you have a favorite movie?
I'd say Gridiron Gang.
What is your spirit animal and why?
Mine is a cheetah. Fast.
Do you have any daily rituals or non-negotiables in your everyday routine?
I read the Bible in the morning. Sometimes I'm rushing, God forgive me, and I don't do it. But I try to.
What are you most proud of besides your football career?
My mom for how hard of a worker she is.
What is the best piece of advice you ever got?
To just keep working.
