JAMAICA PLAIN, Mass. - Pools overflowed, the road crew on Centre Street sweltered, and the cooks manning the grills for the BBQ that marked the end of the camp fried alongside the burgers they prepared while NEPAC held their third annual "Football For You" clinic. On June 7, during the same heat wave that set record temperatures in Worcester, Mass. and Providence, R.I., over a hundred boys and girls still flocked to the field at Boston English High School to learn football from the former pros.
"Football For You" is an initiative presented by NEPAC to the City of Boston and the New England Patriots Charitable Foundation to allow kids to learn more about football from Patriots alumni who excelled at the sport. Steve Grogan, Scott Zolak and John Smith were among the past Patriots greats who served as instructors during the clinic.
Also on hand to help out was the three-time high school Super Bowl Champion coaching staff from St. John's High School in Shrewsbury, Mass., led by head coach and former Patriots linebacker John Andreoli.
"The charter of the New England Patriots Alumni Club is to give back to youth football in the New England area," explained NEPAC President Pete Brock. "The former players enjoyed themselves thoroughly, and the goodwill impact was tremendous. We hope to build on this event each year, and the City of Boston, Mayor Menino and the New England Patriots Charitable Foundation have made that possible so far."
The event wrapped up with a free BBQ and gift bags for all the attendees and their families.
