CINCINNATI (Feb. 7, 2006) -- Free-agent quarterback Doug Johnson signed a one-year contract with the Cincinnati Bengals after spending two games last season on Cleveland's roster.
With starter Carson Palmer recovering from surgery for torn ligaments in his left knee and the possibility that backup Jon Kitna could become a free agent, the Bengals were left with only third-string quarterback Craig Krenzel.
Johnson played in 23 games with Atlanta from 2000-03 and had 11 starts, including eight in 2003 while Michael Vick was injured. He appeared in two games for Tennessee in 2004.
Johnson is 218 of 384 for 2,600 yards, with 13 touchdowns and 18 interceptions.
