On the last game against the Jets...
The Jets played a real good football game. Defensively, they kept us out of the end zone (and) played well on third down. They hurt us with the kickoff return there at the start of the third quarter. (They) gained some good field position. (Jerricho) Cotchery made a big catch (and) broke a tackle. He (Mark Sanchez) had a touchdown pass to (Dustin) Keller. They did a pretty good job of balancing things up especially in the second half with their running game and passing game. As I said, (they) made a play in the kicking game to help them out. They're a good, solid football team. A couple of plays here or there and they could be looking at seven or eight wins. They're a real, solid team. They played well against us in all three phases of the game. We know we've got to do a better job.
On the mindset of his team coming off a tough loss against the Colts...
There are going to be ups and downs in every season. We've got a big game against the Jets in the division. They've beat us the last two times they've played us, so we know what we're up against.
On whether Tom Brady's rust is gone...
Tom hasn't missed a thing all year. He was there for the first day of offseason workouts in March. He was at all of our OTA's, mini camps, training camp, practices during the season (and) games. He's been there everyday.
On whether the Jets defense surprised them in the first meeting this season...
No. We knew they were a pressure team. They're a good defense. They've done a good job. They're one of the best defenses in the league. They haven't given up very many points at all on the defensive side of the ball. They have a good scheme. They've got good players. They've played well against everybody and they certainly played well against us down there in Giants Stadium. We know they're a good defense and they do a good job. For us to win, we're going to have to be more competitive in all three phases of the game, but certainly offensively we're going to have to get the ball in the end zone. I don't think you can expect to beat the Jets just by kicking a couple of field goals. That's not going to be enough.
On his reaction to the level of media attention he has received for going for it on fourth-and-2 against the Colts...
I think we've talked all about that. Right now, we're on to the Jets. Everybody is entitled to their opinion. I understand that, but right now the focus for us the New York Jets (and) our preparation this week. It's a big division game here, and like I said, they've beaten us the last two times so we know we've got our work cut out for us. They're a good football team. They're well coached and they've got a lot of good players.
On how he would characterize his relationship with Rex Ryan...
I respect him and I respect what he does for his football team. Of course, I don't want to see him have a good day on Sunday just like he doesn't want to see me have a good day. I respect what he does and the job that he's done whether it was at Baltimore or now New York. He's an excellent football coach. His teams play well and their team played better than ours did the last time we played them.
On if he's ever had a play that has been more dissected than his decision to go for it on fourth-and-2...
Well, you already know the answer to it, so why don't you answer the question (laughter). Right now, I'm trying to dissect the Jets. Like I said, we're trying to find a way that we can play more competitively against them than we did in the first meeting. We know that we've got our work cut out for us. They've played well every week, every game. They've lost some tough games on the last play, four or five of them. I know they're a good football team and I know they're capable of winning every week. I know we've got a lot of work to do.
On if he relates to what Coach Ryan is going through as a rookie head coach...
I'm really not too worried about any other team in the league right now except the New England Patriots. That's my job. I'm going to try to do the best I can to coach our team to play well (and) to win on Sunday. That's really what my focus is, not any other coach, team or anybody else.
On if he has advice for Coach Ryan...
I don't think he needs any help from me.
On the Jets defense...
They mixed it up. Offensively, we didn't get enough production in that game and the Jets did a good job on defense. We've got to try to find a way to move the ball better, score more points and be more effective on offense. It's not about one guy. It's about our 11 against their 11. I'm sure there will be different combinations of players out there. We're going to have to collectively find a way to be more productive than we were against them in the first game. They've got a lot of good players. I think we have our share, so that's what the competition will be on Sunday.
On his reaction to his former players Rodney Harrison and Teddy Bruschi taking issue with his decision to go for it on fourth-and-2 against the Colts...
Everybody is entitled to their own opinion.
On preparing for the Jets...
We all understand that this is a huge division game against a team that's beaten us the last two times we've played them. We need to have a good week of practice. We need to have a good week of preparation. We know how determined and competitive they are. I'm sure they'll be at their best for this game just like they were the last time they played us. We are going to do everything we can to be at our best and be competitive with them. That's where I think we are. That's where I think they are too.
