New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick addresses the media during his postgame press conference at Giants Stadium on Sunday, September 20, 2009.
Opening Statement...
It was a tough loss like it always is in the division. Give the Jets credit. They just did a better job than we did today and I don't think there's really a whole lot more to say about it. They just outplayed us. They outcoached us. They just performed better than we did over the 60 minutes and I think that was pretty much the story of the game. We had our chances and didn't take advantage of it. They had their chances and they did. That's why it ended up the way it did.
On struggles in the red zone...
We just didn't do a good enough job. They did a better job than we did.
On play of Patriots' defense...
We didn't do a good enough job.
On changing the way the offense communicates...
That's what we did to help them improve the communication. To help with pace and to be able to get the plays and get everyone on the same page and get them executed.
On delay-of-game penalties...
We didn't get the play off in time.
On whether delay of games were a result of the communication change...
No. It was the end of the fourth quarter by that time. Whatever we dealt with, we dealt with for three-and-a-half quarters. We just didn't do a good enough job.
On whether they were caught off-guard by Jets defensive schemes...
They did what they did and they did a good job of it. They played it well and did a good job with it.
On Jets' scoring drive to start the second half...
They hit three plays. The kickoff return. They hit (Jerricho) Cotchery and we missed a tackle. And then (Dustin) Keller in the endzone, down the seam. We didn't play those three plays very well and they did. That's what the Jets do. We gave them an opening and they took it.
On Wes Welker's absence....
He was inactive because he wasn't able to play.
On Julian Edelman's performance...
I think everybody played hard. We had our moments. It's obvious it was a competitive game but we just didn't make enough plays to win. It starts with me and goes for everybody that was involved in that game. From the players, to the assistant coaches, we just collectively didn't do a good enough job. That's all there is to it.
On whether anything was said in exchange between head coaches after the game...
Congratulations.
On whether offense was hurt by having a short week to prepare for Jets' blitz packages...
No, I think we were ready to go. They just played better than we did and coached better. They just did a better job.
On whether something in particular could attribute to team's offensive struggles...
No. We must have run 70 plays out there, or whatever it was. I'm sure there's probably something on every play we could talk about.
On whether he was impressed by Mark Sanchez's poise...
Like I said, they did a good job.
On picking up Jets blitzes...
We could've been better but I think it was alright. I don't think they ever sacked us. They hit us a few times so there's certainly room for improvement. We could have done a lot of things better. We need to do them better.
