Patriots head coach Bill Belichick addresses the media during his postgame press conference from Gillette Stadium on Thursday, August 26, 2010.
BB: We obviously didn't have a very good night tonight. I don't think we did very many things well and we've got a lot of work to do. There really isn't too much to say. We've just got to get back to the drawing board and just do a better job in every area. That's really about it.
Q: Do you think the team came out flat at all?
BB: I don't think we played well or coached well. We just didn't do a good job tonight.
Q: Laurence Maroney didn't register any carries. Should we read anything into that?
BB: Yeah, we never had the ball.
Q: So would he have played more in the second half possibly if you had the ball?
BB: We never had the ball. We didn't have any plays to run on offense.
Q: So your plan was to play him tonight if you had the ball?
BB: We would have played everybody.
Q: Is that why you kept Tom Brady in so long – to get him enough plays?
BB: We didn't run any plays. We never had the ball. In a game of no defense, we played less.
Q: How disappointed are you in your defense?
BB: We didn't do well on anything. We didn't have a good night.
Q: Is there anything you can credit it to?
BB: We just didn't perform well.
Q: Is it concerning in that this is the so-called 'most important' preseason game?
BB: It's concerning any time you don't play well.
Q: How much of a gut check will it be for you guys?
BB: I don't know.
Q: Do you anticipate playing the regulars a little bit more in the fourth game now?
BB: I don't know. We just walked off the field. [I'll] think about next week next week. Right now we've got a lot of mistakes to correct, so we'll put that first.
Q: What was your observation of Sam Bradford and what he did?
BB: I'm worried about – I'm really concerned about my team. I'm not really worried about anybody else.
Q: Do you think any of this had to do with the difference this week of not having seen the team before like you did with the Saints and the Falcons in the joint practices?
BB: I don't know.
Q: Was Rob Gronkowski's play a little bit of a bright spot?
BB: When you can't make a first down in the first half, it's hard to find a lot of bright spots on offense.
Q: When you talk about the poor play, do you feel like it was just a lack of execution or game planning or something else?
BB: We didn't do a good job. I think that's pretty obvious.
Q: What do you hope your younger players and the team in general will take from this?
BB: I think we need to play better and coach better.
Q: How did you feel the week of preparation went? Did you see any signs of this?
BB: We just didn't play well tonight. We didn't have a good night.
Q: Does this change your plan for week four at all?
BB: [We] just got off the field.
