Patriots Head Coach Bill Belichick
On the game:
"I don't think we did very many things the way we wanted to do them tonight. We weren't good in any phase of the game. We got the ball on the ground and we didn't play very well on defense. We didn't move the ball well and we were in too many long yardage situations. We were not good enough in the kicking game. Overall, we have a lot of work to do. That is obvious. We need to get back to work and see if we can improve in every area. There were a few flashing moments, but not many. We have a lot of work to do and that is all of us – coaching staff, players, offense, defense, special teams, everybody. We just have to do a better job than that."
On not playing the starters:
"We did what we felt was best for the football team, just like we always do."
On how the team has practiced this week and if it showed during the game:
"We need to perform better than that and we didn't. We have a lot of work to do."
On if tonight's game will affect the upcoming practice schedule:
"We are going to continue to try to get better and address all the areas we need to address, which is a lot. We had too many penalties and too many bad plays with not enough good ones. We need to work on everything."
**
On the how the team played:**
"We will go and look at film to see how everyone did. We gave a lot of guys a lot of playing time. Some guys played a considerable amount of time. We will evaluate and see how it goes. I am sure everybody has things they need to work on. I don't think there is any doubt about that."
On wide receiver Brian Tyms:
"He has shown the ability to make some plays, but I think we all have a lot of work to do."
On the team's pass protection:
"I don't think our protection was good enough. I don't think our passing game was good enough, I don't think our running game was good enough. I don't think our run defense, pass defense, kicking game were good enough. They all need to be improved."
On the defensive line's play:
"We got a lot of reps but I don't know how well we played."
On how the younger players responded to the pressure:
"We will have to take a look at the film and I'm sure there were some things we did OK at, but not enough of them. Not enough as a team but maybe some individually. We will look at it and evaluate it. Obviously, there are some things we need to improve as a team. We will get to work on those."
On practicing with the Redskins this week:
"We obviously have a long way to go, so that's what we have to do. We have to improve in all areas and where we are now is not where we want to be."
On cornerback Malcolm Butler:
"He had a lot of reps and I'm sure there were some good things. He had a bad penalty. We will take a look at all of it. There were a lot of young players that got a lot of reps tonight. We will evaluate it and see if we can sort it out to make some improvement this week."
