ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. -- The Buffalo Bills announced the hiring of Bob Sanders as their defensive line coach on Wednesday.
Sanders, 55, spent the previous three seasons as the Green Bay Packers' defensive coordinator. He also coached defensive ends for Green Bay in 2005. He will enter his ninth season in the NFL.
Under Sanders' leadership, the Packers led the NFL with six interceptions returned for touchdowns in 2008. Green Bay tied for the NFC lead with 22 interceptions and ranked fourth in the NFC with 28 takeaways. In 2007, the Packers ranked third in the NFL in third-down defense, sixth in scoring defense and sixth in the NFC in pass defense.
In 2006, Green Bay ranked among the best pass-rushing defenses in the NFL. The Packers ranked first in the NFC (fourth in the NFL) with 46 sacks. Green Bay also ranked fourth in the NFL with 29 forced fumbles and fifth in the NFC in overall defense.
Sanders began his NFL coaching career in 2001 as a linebackers coach with the Miami Dolphins and spent four seasons with the team.
