Dolphins GM Mueller signs contract extension

Dolphins general manager Randy Mueller signed a two-year contract extension that will take him through the summer of 2010. Mueller's initial contract was three years for $2.1 million and ran through June 2008.

MIAMI (June 27, 2007) -- Dolphins general manager Randy Mueller signed a two-year contract extension that will take him through the summer of 2010.

Mueller's initial contract was three years for $2.1 million and ran through June 2008. Salary details of the new deal were not disclosed.

"I'm excited to be able to continue in my role with an organization that has such a great tradition," Mueller said. "I want to thank (owner H. Wayne) Huizenga and Bryan Wiedmeier for making this happen, and feel that with the people we have in place, we have the opportunity to achieve a great deal of success here."

Mueller, who joined the Dolphins as general manager in June 2005, has seen the team slide in recent years. Miami went 6-10 last season and missed the playoffs for the fifth straight year.

"Randy is one of the most respected general managers in the NFL, and we value the work that he has done here the past two years," Dolphins president Bryan Wiedmeier said. "We believe that with this extension, coupled with the addition of Cam Cameron as head coach, our franchise is headed in the right direction."

Mueller also had stints with the Seattle Seahawks (1983-1999) and the New Orleans Saints (2000-2001). With the Saints, he was the team's general manager of football operations.

The Dolphins also signed free agent safety Chris Harrell.
