DAVIE, Fla. (Aug. 2, 2005) -- The Miami Dolphins signed center Alonzo Ephraim, one day after center Wade Smith sustained a broken right forearm.
Dolphins coach Nick Saban said Smith hurt the elbow when he was hit in the forearm during Aug. 1's practice. Smith is expected to be out until the early part of the regular season.
Ephraim spent the last two seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles after signing as an undrafted rookie free agent in 2003. He played in 30 games for the Eagles, with two starts.
To make room on the roster for Ephraim, the Dolphins waived linebacker Derek Curry, signed in April as an undrafted free agent.
Also, Dolphins offensive lineman Jason Thomas underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right knee. Thomas will be evaluated on a week-to-week basis.
Dolphins guard Eric Wilson also returned to practice after missing three days to attend to personal issues.
