Donte' Stallworth Press Conference Quotes - 1/30/2008

New England Patriots WR Donte' Stallworth addresses the during his press conference at Patriots Super Bowl XLII headquarters in Scottsdale, Arizona on January 30, 2008.

(on if he's ready for the game already)
"Yes I am. We have to get our preparation in but guys are ready to play. It's about that time, but we've got a couple of more days to work. That's the only thing about this game – it's a long week and there is so much stuff you are doing. But, I'd rather be doing it than not be doing it."

(on all of the distractions and if it prevents him from focusing on the game)
"There are a lot of distractions but if that were the case (not being able to focus), nobody would be getting tickets. I wouldn't care about any of that. I am just ready to play."

(on if he had any idea the team would be so successful when he came on board)
"No, I knew we had a chance on paper to be something special, but there's no such thing as winning games on paper. You've got to win them between the white lines. There is a lot of work we have to put into it, but we've come a long way. Guys have been making plays and hopefully we can do it one more time."

(on having so many weapons on offense)
"In this game, yeah, we have guys who can come out and make plays but it's the same thing with the Giants. They have a lot of guys who make plays for them offensively, defensively and on special teams. This is the last game and it's time to throw out all of the marbles. Everyone will be playing their hearts out because it's for getting fitted for that ring. They are a really, really good team and they've come on at the right time, at the end of the year. They've been climbing ever since the last couple of games of the regular season."

(on comments by Plaxico Burress)
"We've had guys all year talk about our team, talk about our coaches or whatever, and we don't care about that stuff. We just go out and play. Plaxico is a friend of mine. I saw that he said it but I didn't say anything to him about it, and he didn't say anything about it to me. It's not really even important."

(on the fact though that the Giants are guaranteeing a win over an undefeated team)
"Teams feel strongly about themselves and they feel like they need to do that I guess. We're not into all of that. We just go out and play our game. We've got so much other stuff to worry about. We are not getting into any of that."

(on if the chemistry when he got to training camp seemed different from any other team)
"The number one thing was that Bill (Belichick) always stressed to the players to do their job and not to try to do anyone else's job. I think that's the most important thing to start with. We've got guys who have been to Pro Bowls and Super Bowls, but he always stresses that none of that really matters. You just focus on your job and everything else will take care of itself."

(on how quickly his chemistry came along with Tom Brady)
"It was good. Tom does a lot of talking and communicating and he always wants to make sure that guys are on the same page at all times. He works hard at it and he's probably one of the hardest workers I've ever been around. That's why he is who he is."

(on having to be in the shadow somewhat at receiver)
"I think you never know what game could be your game, or what play could be your play. You've just got to stay patient. We've been playing like that all year."

(on the Giants wearing black to symbolize their plan to bury the Patriots)
"All that extra outside stuff, I could honestly care less about. My concern is making sure I've got my game plan down. I didn't know anything about it, and it doesn't concern me."

(on the team keeping focused)
"The number one thing with Bill (Belichick) is that he holds everyone to a high standard and he expects everyone to do their job and not to worry about anyone else's job. Everyone has taken heed to that and guys understand that he's been in the big games and won the big games and if you follow his lead, he's usually never wrong."

(on if he's seeing a lot of man coverage on him)
"The defenses are doing a really good job of mixing up some things. Wes Welker is also getting a lot of double coverage on certain situations. That's one thing we've focused on this week, making sure we know our match-ups and knowing exactly what we need to do on that field. So once a certain play happens, and they do what we expect from what we've seen on film, then we need to be able to go to another option."

(on the theory that the Patriots can be beat by taking Randy Moss away and if that motivates the rest of the receivers)
"Teams are going to do what they feel like their best match-ups are. I don't feel like it's motivated us at all because we all play professional football and we all love to play this game. At any given point, you never know who can be the guy to make the play and Tom Brady is always going to find the open guy. With that being said, every play everybody is working to get open. If a team wants to take away one thing from our offense, we have other options to go to and guys have to get open and do their jobs."

(on positives and negatives of playing the Giants three weeks ago)
"I think one thing is if you worry about the outcome of that former game, that can lead you astray and down the wrong path. We won that last game but we know that we could have easily lost it. The score did not indicate how close that game really was. They feel like they came out and played well, which they did. We know in watching that film that there were some things we needed to correct and get better, but as far as they go, they've got a really good team. Since that game they've done nothing but get better so we've definitely got a big challenge on our hands."

(on the New York/Boston rivalry)
"It'll be big for the fans. When I was back there watching the Yankees playing our Red Sox, it gets pretty intense. It'll be interesting. I know the fans are definitely enjoying it and it'll be fun to see how that all pans out."

(on what he knows about Eli Manning and how his personality is so different from Tom Brady)
"I know Eli from being in Tennessee and me begging him to come to Tennessee when he was a senior year in high school. I like Eli. He's got his own personality and it works for him, the same thing with Tom."

(on keeping his adrenaline in check for his first Super Bowl)
"It's a long week, it's a really long week. I don't want to say it's just another game because it isn't. It is the Super Bowl. But, it's still just a game and it's your last game and how do you want to leave it? Being a winner, or being a loser."

(on if this is what he envisioned when he came to the Patriots)
"This is what I hoped for, but this is what you hope for every year. You go into the offseason program with the rest of the guys and you work hard, and you go through the passing camps, the mini camps and the training camps and this is what you hope for. I'm living a dream right now and hopefully I don't wake up."

(on WR Kelley Washington)
"He's a funny dude. We hang out a lot and it's good to have him on our team. He's been out there doing really well for us and making some really big plays. My last year at Tennessee we just missed playing in the National Championship, but we have our chance now to play for a Championship and hopefully we can take advantage of it."
