PHILADELPHIA (April 27, 2006) -- Restricted free-agent punter Dirk Johnson signed a one-year contract with the Philadelphia Eagles.
Johnson, 30, played in seven games for the Eagles last year before being put on injured reserve for a sports hernia. Johnson had surgery for the injury in the offseason -- missing the entire preseason -- but the injury never healed.
Johnson had a net average of 38.4 yards per punt last year with 11 kicks inside the 20. He was the Eagles' everyday punter in 2003 and 2004.
The Eagles also signed kicker E.J. Cochrane to a one-year deal. Cochrane led the Big Sky Conference in scoring as a senior in 2004 at Montana State.
