On Saturday, April 16, the 31-member, 2011 Patriots Cheerleading squad was announced, concluding a seven-week audition process which began with approximately 300 aspiring dancers, cheerleaders and promotional models, all hoping to earn a coveted position on the squad representing the three-time Super Bowl Champion New England Patriots.
An optional audition workshop was held on February 26 at which candidates were given an opportunity to learn choreography and practice dance combinations and then participate in a question and answer segment relating to interview and resume guidelines, hair, makeup and audition attire, etc. Three weeks later, preliminary auditions began with an across-the-floor combination followed by a free-style segment, giving dancers an opportunity to showcase their own style. Next, the ladies were taught a choreographed dance routine and after three rounds of tabulations, the judges selected 45 finalists. Due to the Patriots Cheerleaders' increased promotional appearance role in the community, candidates were also invited to submit resumes for our promotional model program, and selected ladies were invited to join finalists and returning veterans at the April 16th final audition process.
The 75 finalists began the day with a written quiz on football and then lined up for the swimsuit modeling round. The dance category was next which included kicks, splits, three rounds of dance and an optional tumbling segment. Before tabulations were made, candidates were paired up for a meet and greet session with the judging panel. By the end of the day, 41 ladies were chosen to participate in a two week boot camp program. Learning dance choreography and cheer/chants, practicing high kicks, stretching, running the ramps at Gillette Stadium, participating in high intensity "Insanity" workouts, and participating in public speaking drills, the finalists learned exactly what it would be like to be a member of the Patriots Cheerleading Squad.
The 31 ladies who were selected for the team are not only optimistically preparing for an exciting season, but are getting their passports and packing for Aruba! Each member of the squad receives an all-expense trip to the Aruba Marriott to shoot our 2012 swimsuit calendar. Check back soon for photos from the trip!
